Decision modeling is a powerful means of representing a business policy in a way which can be readily understood by business subject matter experts or business analysts and – once approved – be directly executed as part of automated decision making within a company. In this example, we show how this works for a part of UK Student Loan policy using RapidGenius.
This demonstration reveals how part of the Student Loan Model is created, how the model is structured, how it is compiled into executable form using RapidGenius, how this executable can be run against a set of student applications and how the results – in other words the behavior of the policy – can be visualized in Tableau.
This silent video shows:
- Structure of the model, including introduction to DMN 0-2:45
- Example of Business Knowledge Model 2:45-3:30
- Compilation of DMN 3:30-4:00
- Tableau visualization 4:00-5:15
Decision modeling provides an unprecedented means for companies to remove the disconnect between their policy makers and their IT systems. They need never hide their automated business policies in inscrutable programming languages again: representing policies as decision models mean business owners and policy makers can examine, test and visualize the policies directly. It also increases the accountability of these policies and allows rival policies to be directly compared (e.g., for profitability, fairness).
